Old Yeller

Old Yeller is a great book taken place in late 1800’s. This book takes place in Salt Lick, Texas. It has a variety of characters like 14 year old Travis Coates, Mama, Papa, his brother, and the stand out character is Old Yeller the dog. The dog was a dog that hung around the house and Travis Coates would always scare the dog away because it was more of a stray. But until one day a bear tried to attack his family and the dog comes to save the dog and his family. Travis begins to love the dog because of this, until he realized the dog had been bitten and caught rabies. Old Yeller turns on the family and Travis. So Travis has to kill the dog and this rips his life apart.

I choose to read this book because of the setting and plot made me feel as if I was there because of all the action and life stories it told as the book went along. It was just a fascinating book and I couldn’t put the book down once I started to read the book more and more.

Two main characters in this story were Travis Coates and Old Yeller, the dog. Travis Coates had it hard as a kid. But when he met the dog, it helped him with chores such as chasing off raccoons from the corn field, branding pigs, and even milking cows. Old Yeller was his sidekick, where ever Travis was Old Yeller was there with him, and Travis loved the dog, he thought nothing could split them up.

              The theme of this story is Adulthood. Simply because Papa leaves on a cattle drive and he leaves the farm to Travis and his older brother. This is telling the two boys let mama do the cooking and those two are the man of the family.

            Travis Coates is the younger brother and he acts like the oldest. I say this cause it shows throughout the whole book. He was always the one up early in the morning doing chores, helping his mother out, no back talk usually when told to do something. He did what his father wanted him to do. He was the man of the book and the one who stood out the most.

            This is a good book but I can’t really connect this book to my life. For a couple of reasons and those reasons are I’ve never had rough times and my dad’s never stepped out on my life and told me to be a man, Maybe because I am a girl? But still I can’t really connect.  

            I loved this book. I’ve learned a lesson. My lesson is to never be weak. Take care of your mother no matter what and show her the respect she needs to have.

Okay, I really don’t know what to write about so I am going to write about the back of the girl’s head that is in front of me, she has long brown hair, and it looks like it has blond highlights but I am not quite sure, it might just be from the sun though. She has on a green zip up jacket. It has a hood on it too. But back to her hair, she flips her hair back just about one time every minute. I wonder if she even has the littlest idea that I am doing my free write on her head! Oh well, I guess she will never know, and plus I don’t even know how to spell her name so I can’t really be worried about it. Well I have to go now, see ya (:

Woman work; This poem is just great, my mom really loved this poem when I showed it to her, she said she can most diffidently relate to it, she said the poem describes everything she does  in the day, but tend to the baby, because she does not have a baby. But she said she really likes this awesome poem and it is her new favorite (:

Jamia: Mia Moo Moo, you are so crazy girl and that’s why you are my bestfriend, you are so much like me that’s why we get alone so well, we have just about the same personalty, that’s why ican be so open with you because you always know where I am coming from, I know you are always there for me and I am always here for you to, we are true bestfriends and that will never chance, you are an amazing friend mia, I love you to death girlyy <3

Jon: wow, jon you are so silly, even though I have only knowned you since 6th grade we have been though alot in the last 3 years, I know I can talk to you about anything, even though some times you say things I don’t want to hear, and you are right, the truth does hurt, it hurts alot. But that’s how I know you are looking out for me because you always tell me what I need to hear, even if it hurts my feelingg. You are a very good friend, that’s why we are still friends now. We are bestfriends till the end of this word (:

The Secret Life of Bees

“Daddy, no! I’m sorry! Those are some of the bright, hurtful words that come from the loving, caring Lily.

One of the main reasons I love this book is because Lily is a young girl about my age who has normal problems just like any girl.  Lily has the brightest personality ever. Her dad may not think so but the readers do so I’m sure you would love it too.

The story has three sisters, August, June and May, who are very amazing.  August is the head of the pack and the oldest.  She keeps everything in place.  June is the middle sister who is a teacher and plays the cello. May is the very nice, sensitive one that cares about of everything; she loves the plants growing in the ground, the hot sun that beats down on us, even the dirt on the ground.

I think I just fell in love with the book because of the theme, I really like the concept of this lovely story I think it is so great that three ladies would take in two complete strangers just to help them out, the sincerity in this book is just great.

I really recommended this book to all ages it is a really good book the characters are amazing, the theme is really good, it is a fantastic book im sure you will love it as much as I do.

i went ice skating about 5 days ago and had a hole bunch of fun, I love going ice skating. but i feel like ten millon times, it started to hurt my back. But it was fun. I cant wait to learn more about this sport.

I had a very very nice brake, i did alot of fun things, I went to the movies twice, I went shoping three times,  I hung out with my family and friends, And i also went to church. i went to see new moon, it was a really good movie, i really liked it. i hung out with my family alot! but it was fun, i like just sitting at home with my family talking about our week,it’s cool. I really like how our brake was so long, so yeah, i had a good brake.

Today was a great day, we went to the new cape high school, we walked in and out of allot of different classes, and it was allot of fun. We learned about a allot of new programs at the high school, we learned about the JRTC program, I thought that was very neat, we learned what you do in the program and what you are able to get out of if you do decide to do JRTC, I think it is a very cool thing. We learned about a baking class a health class, we also learned about the AVID program, it is where you get a person to help you with school work and it helps you get in to a good collage, so that would be a big help to somebody that needs help getting in to a nice collage. What I was very surprised about is the building, it is so nice, I would have never thought it would be that big, I think it looks like a collage, it is a very nice school, I am very happy with what it looks like. I am also very happy with the gym I think it is a very nice gym it is not all the way done yet, but still I can tell it is very nice. What I think is going to help me to my advantage is the baking class I love to bake but I am not every good at it, so if I took that class next year it could help me get better at cooking. Another thing that would help me next year is the child health class I love to be with little kids, and that is just what that class does it prepares you to be ready to work will kids, so you will know what to do when you get into the real word. I think today was a very nice opportunity to see all the great classes the new cape high school has to offer. Thank all the teacher for making this happen, thank you very much.

Well as you all know I am doing my topic on ice skating, so I decided that I needed to go because it has been so long since I went, so me my friend Candice and my friend Amanda all went, we had a lot of fun, I was Amanda and Candice’s  first time, they really enjoyed it. There were a lot of people there. It was only a small little rink and there was just so many little kids falling left and right, it was crazy. But I did have a lot of fun and I only fell once! I was so proud of myself, I really love going out there and trying to go fast and going around little kids and parents. Ice skating is my new favorite  thing to do.

Everybody has somebody important in their lives, one of the people who mean the most to me in my life is a very kind hearted woman, you might know her as Lorraine Schawartz, but I know her as my amazing grandmother, born in 1947 in a very small house in Cherry Hill New Jersey, with one older sitter and two older brothers she was the baby of them all.

 She went to a very small little school, that was about two miles away from her house, she walked to school with her three siblings every day. They did not learn the same things we do now, she only was thought how to do basic math and how to learn simple words, they did not have all the extra classes we do now, she never had gym once a week they would go play a game or two outside, but that’s it.

 Every day after school her and her best friend Jane Jones would walk home together, they would stop at a shop and get one drink for 10 cents each they would share the drink and talk about there day, when they would get home they would help their families cook and clean then if they were lucky they would go back out side and try and get a game of kick ball going.

 She had to help out a lot of the house when she was growing up, her dad was always very sick he had a very bad illness, her and her brothers and sisters had to help out, he had a lot of responsibilities to take care of, everything was different when she was little,  her family did not have a lot of money so they had to do their best, she had a hard life growing up but she would not change it for the word.

 As you can see how life changed as the years when on things are not the same anymore, but things always happen for a reason.
